Freezing my eggs

Egg-freezing is all the rage these days. (even AOC is doing it too!)
I am also going through the process right now as I type this. The process takes several weeks to complete, with the need for 4-5 doctor’s visits during that time.
You need to self-inject hormones into your body for a few days and that’s what I’ve been doing. I was a bit scared at first when I heard about having to stick a needle into myself at home, but it actually isn’t all that bad.
Now I’m more scared about the actual egg extraction. I will for certain get anesthesia but still…apparently I will be awake during the process? Yikes.

While I am glad that I am freezing my eggs, I have been questioning the need for it honestly. Did you know that only a small percentage of people who freeze their eggs actually end up using their frozen eggs in the future? I think the percentage was as low as 10% or something (don’t quote me). It costs a lot of money to get the procedure done, yet, most people end up not needing it.

What does that say about this procedure?? Why am I paying so much to go through it?? Because I’m scared of the possibility of not having children? As of now I don’t even want kids. But there is a chance that I might change my mind in the future and I want to buy a little bit of time and reassurance that I could potentially try later in life if I feel differently then.

I feel that men don’t have the same level of anxiety towards choosing to not have kids. Women are pressured to have kids by a certain age and if we don’t we are shamed/questioned. Because of this pressure, many women in their late twenties/thirties feel the need to pay a ton of money to get their eggs frozen. What I’m getting at is that just maybe this whole egg-freezing thing is anti-feminist?? The egg-freezing business is profiting off of traditional gender roles/the patriarchy?? Am I making a hot take here? lol
